Echoes from the Past was started by the director Eric Winder in 1988, as a result of his strong desire to bring history alive for adults and children and get beyond the show case and "don't touch" attitude, prevalent in many museums.

His interest stemmed from many years of museum work and historical research and 14 years in re-enactment societies. Echoes from the Past employs between 2 - 8 character interpreters for any event. We all have a sound knowledge of history and are capable researchers as well as having theatrical, craft or musical skills. We have performed for both adults and children, in museums, schools, at historical sites, festivals and themed events. We have been involved in film and TV work and radio broadcasts.

We were some of the very first character interpreters in the museum and heritage field. Creating well-researched characters, who are both colourful and entertaining, our work reflects our motto "We entertain, to educate and educate to entertain"

We perform as first person interpreters, although in some cases our clients prefer us to step out of character at certain times to give contemporary explanations.
